I am currently a sopho- more at MV and am enrolled in the Plant and Soil Science class. Throughout the rest of the year, I will try to keep you informed about the exciting events happening at Mission Valley. If you ever have any questions, just give me a call at the school, and I will try to help you out. The Mission Valley FFA Chapter and Greenhand offi- cers traveled to Lawrence Kan- sas, Wednesday the 13th. Each of the teams competed in three contests, Parliamentary Procedure, Ritual, Leadership information test. Parliamen- tary Procedure is a contest where members must present a 10-minute demonstration of motion and debate. Ritual is where they perform the open- ing and closing ceremonies of the FFA, and the Leadership information test is over FFA information The Greenhands placed I st over all in Leadership Infor- mation, Cole Rutledge was 2-d, Shayla Hastings placed 5% Denae Kraus 6th, and Jake Gleason placed 9th. In Ritual they placed 8th, and Kendra Mitchell received Master Ritual for Treasurer. In Parliamen- tary Procedure they placed 1~'. The Greenhands placed 2.d overall. The Chapter officers placed 1.~t in Ritual, Chantelle Blythe received Master Ritual Presi- dent, and Amy Durkes re- ceived Master Ritual Secretary. Parliamentary Procedure the officers placed Ist which quali- fies them for state. Leader- ship Information they placed 9~, and they placed 2-d over- all. The FFA Chapter officers were lucky enough to go to National FFA Convention in Louisville, ICY. The officers, Ms. Riley and Kim Dukes had an excellent time seeing the many sites of Emma, St. Louis, and Louisville. In St. Louis, we visited the St. Louis Science Center, the Zoo and the Arch. We had a good time watching all of the animals at the zoo, and using the radar gun at the science center. In Louisville, we visited the Louisville Slugger museum, and watched bats being made. We also made it to Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. We were lucky enough to see a live horse race, but Ms. Riley wouldn't let us bet. The most amazing part of the entire trip was the Na- tional FFA Convention. It was so surreal to see all of the thousands of FFA jackets walking around the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. There was a record 51,000 members and guests in atten- dance. We were able to see the National FFA officers, Muhammad All, Rick Patino and Roulan Gardner during the convention sessions. We also visited the FFA career show and of course the FFA Shopping Mall. All in all it was a great five-day trip. We would like to thank Kim for coming along and all those who contributed to making our trip a success. The MV FFA Turkey Shoots took place through October and November. We had an excellent turnout this year, and you couldn't beat the weather. Most Sundays we averaged 25 shooters with the largest Sunday having 45 shooters and 10 volunteers. Shooters participated in ba- con, sausage, and bratwurst shoots. They also had the op- portunity to help out one an- other in protections shots, and finally each Sunday had at least one big winner in the Turkey Shoot. If you missed this year's shoots, look for us every Sunday in October "in 2003. Fruit and Meat sales on Friday November 15. missed you, let us 785-449-2297, we cart order more.
