HARVEYVILLE
4-H CLUB
The monthly meeting of the
Harveyville 4-H club was
called to order on November 6,
2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the fire-
house in Harveyvine. The
members began the meeting
by saying their "Favorite
Name" as roll call. The re-
porter, council members, his-
torian, community leaders,
and standing committees gave
their reports.
The reporter informed the
club that her report has been
submitted to the Wabaunsee
County Signal-Enterprise pa-
per, and was published in the
October 17th edition.
The council members in-
formed the club of their par-
ticipation in the meeting. They
asked the club to review the
bylaws and asked for sugges-
tions.
The historian informed the
club that she is looking up
information about the histo-
rian, and reported information
to the club.
The community leaders
informed the club of an inter-
est in providing the members
with pins to honor them for
completing a project and
turning in a record book. Not
all members receive pins at
the county level; it would be a
way to reward them for their
hard work. This could be
done at the Appreciation Sup-
per.
The Point system commit-
tee reported that they have
created a system for the mem-
bers to earn points for differ-
ent activities that they partici-
pate in during the year. They
will be awarded points for each
activity and will be able to
spend their points on materi-
als to enhance their projects.
The club will provide a
vegetable tray for Achievement
Night on November 13, 2002.
A budget was set for the club
as a guideline for the year. We
discussed our December serv-
ice projects and the club will
continue to provide cookies
and caroling for the Har-
veyville community. We plan
to do that at our next meeting
on Wednesday, December 4,
2002. We will also provide
fruit bags to residents outside
the city limits. The club also
plans to visit the Ronald
McDonald House on Saturday,
December 21~t, at 8 a.m. and
deliver items the club will pur-
chase, plus items the mem-
bers donate. The club will set
a date at the next meeting to
have a planning day. The club
will set up our goals, sign up
for talks, and sign up for
committees. The club showed
an interest in providing mem-
bers new T-shirts. The mem-
bers looked at catalogs and
placed their order. The club
also shows an interest in con-
tinuing the book drive for next
year. The members will be
placing book drops at different
locations around the commu-
nity and schools. They are
asking the community to do-
nate books of any age to the
Wabaunsee Infant Toddler
Service.
The club has a new sewing
leader, Vel Hodges, and she
introduced herself to the
members and encouraged
participation. Nancy Land,
photography and beef leader,
informed the members of a
photography meeting at 9 a.m.
and beef meeting at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, November 16, 2002.
Katelyn Davis gave a pro-
ject talk on rabbits. She
showed us the parts of the
rabbit and how to pick up and
hold a rabbit correctly. Jamie
Singleton gave a health/safety
talk on bike safety. She gave
the members information on
the parts of the bike and how
to inspect your bike. The stu-
dents were given a quiz to see
if they were paying attention.
Jenna Willey gave a demon-
stration talk on Sculpey clay.
She showed the members how
to mold it and the different
uses for it. AblSy Sage led the
club in the song "Billy Boy~
and asked the club to pick
three or four of their favorite
Christmas songs for caroling.
Wesley Davis led the club in
recreation. They played a
game called "Takeover". The
members formed a circle and
tossed the ball back and forth
to each other. The team to
successfully pass the ball
around the circle without
cropping it was the winner.
The meeting was ad-
journed. We enjoyed treats
provided by the Singleton
family.
