Thus, to give money away is quite a simple tusk, but for the act to be virtuous, the donor must give to the right person, for the right purpose, in the right amount, in the right manner, and at the right time. E Aristotle s Day :r llth As Veteran's Day observances are being held, Suzanne Simon, Wabaunsee County Register of Deeds, would like to remind aH veterans to have their military discharge records recorded. The Wabaunsee County Register of Deeds Office provides this serv- ice free of charge. Recording these documents prevents theloss of them and also allows the vet- eran to obtain certified copies of the document for use rather than the original. By Dorothy Masters During a stop on my state library tour to promote my book, I was talking to Pete Daniels who is in charge of buying books for the Inde- pendence Library. Pete was so neat, I could of visited with him all day and he seems to enjoy my small talk. He said he had started his library career in St. Marys with the Regional Library there. I snarled and said, "That is the library that serves Har- veyville, we axe in that region." Small world. Pete said, "Did you drive all the way down here just to see me," with a big grin on his face. I said I had another pur- pose or two but libraries were on my mind when I traveled the state. I told him I was on my way to Sedan to see the ranch and gallery. He offered, "Don't miss 'The Little House on the Prairie' just outside of Independence." He proceeded to give explicit instructions so I wouldn't miss it. Good thing he did as it was foggy again that morning of my trip. I had forgotten that Laura Ingalls Wilder had written about Kansas. In fact, I ad- mitted to Pete I hadn't read the book but it was on my stack to read as one of my readers said my writing re- minds her of Laura's writing. Pete said, "Why you should be reading her book to those grandchildrenl" I explained life is so fast, I would never get to read to them in the amount of time they are at my house between other activities. I saw the site of the cabin, school, general store and lum- ber wagon on the historic site. Just today, I pulled up the site on the web and renewed my memory and learned things I had never known. Today's in- formation highway is as- tounding to me. I was also there to see Bill Kurtis' Red Buffalo Ranch. While at his gift shop in Se- dan, I bought a magazine, Per- simmon Hill, winter issue of 2000 as it has a feature story about Bill and his ranch. It also states that ''The Little House on the Prairie" site sets on part of his ranch. It is a small world and I still can't see and learn it all Retaining what I learn is the hardest part for my small brain now.
