The Wabaunsee County Signal-Enterprise, Thursday,
ANNA E. CUNNINGHAM
Anna E. Cunningham, 57,
Maple Hill, Kansas, died Mon-
day, October 28, 2002, at her
home. She had cancer.
She was born April 1,
1945, in Topeka, Kansas, the
daughter of David William and
Anna Elizabeth Stehlin Cun-
ningham. She attended Salina
Public Schools and had lived
in Maple HiU for the past 11
years.
Survivors include two
brothers, Richard Cunning-
ham, Topeka, Kansas and Jo-
seph Cunningham, Valley
Falls, Kansas.
Graveside services were at
1:00 p.m. Thursday, October
31, 2002, at Mount Calvary
Cemetery.
Memorial contributions
may be made to the charity of
the donor's choice and sent in
care of Parker-Price Mortuary,
Topeka, Kansas.
STEVEN RAY
"STEVE" STECK
Mass of Christian burial for
Steven Ray "Steve" Steck, 44,
McFarland, Kansas, was Sat-
urday, November 2, 2002, at
10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family
Catholic Church in Alma,
Kansas. Father John Pilcher
was the celebrant. Mr. Steck
died Wednesday, October 30,
2002, at the Mercy Health
Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
He was a lifelong resident of
the area.
He was born May 9, 1958
in Kansas City, Kansas, the
son of William E. and Shelba
Collyge Steck. His parents
died when he was very young
and he was adopted and
raised by his paternal grand-
parents, William J. and Mar-
garet M. Steck. He attended
school in McFarland and
graduated from Wabaunsee
High School in Alma in 1976.
He worked as a machinist
for Cutler Repaying, Inc. in
Lawrence, Kansas. He also
coached girl's youth softball
for several years, was an avid
KU basketball fan, and loved
to play golf. He was a member
of Holy Family Catholic
Church in Alma.
He married Sandy Casey
on February 8, 1986 in Man-
hattan, Kansas. She survives
of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by two daughters,
Stephanie and Kristi Steck,
both of the home; one sister,
deanie Trudo, Wamego, Kan-
sas; and one brother, Allen
Steck, South Haven, Missis-
sippi.
A rosary for Mr. Steck was
recited Friday, November 1,
2002, at 8:30 p.m. at the R.J.
Evans-Gentry Funeral Home
in Alma. A visitation was held
from 7:00 p.m. until the rosary.

The family suggests memo-
rial contributions to the Steve
Steck Memorial Fund for the
education of his daughters,
and may be sent in care of the
funeral home.

HONORED AT
STATE KAHPERD
CONFERENCE
Gretchen Altevogt, a senior
at Wichita State University,
was recently honored at the
state conference for Physical
Education and Health in-
structors.
KAHPERD (Kansas Asso-
ciation for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and
Dance) met at Wichita State
University on Friday and Sat-
urday, Novelnber 1 and 2. At
the noon luncheon on Friday,
students from seven Kansas
universities were honored with
Outstanding Major Awards.
Gretchen Altevogt repre-
sented Wichita State Univer-
sity and received the Out-
standing Major Award in Exer-
cise Science. She was pre-
sented with an engraved
plaque. She was also recog-
nized at the KAHPERD Awards
Banquet on Friday evening.
Gretchen is a Wabaunsee
High School graduate and is
the daughter of Orville and
Sandy Altevogt, Alma. \-
