GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY HELD AT MHG6

for Mill Creek Valley USD #329. Similar groundbreaking ceremonies were held
Wabaunsee High School, Alma, and at Mill Creek Valley Jr. High and PaxJco
Pax/co, in April.
Superintendent Randy Rivers introduced members of the school board and
construction management team.
Following those introductions, Maple Hill School Board Representative
the following statement: "I would like to thank the patrons of this school
hard work and commitment to our schools. It is through your commitment and
have been able to improve the facilities throughout our school district. Your
brought with it a reward for our communities and for our children, the rew~d
education and a brighter outlook. Let us take pride in our accomplishment and
to future challenges with a strong sense of unity and a can do attitude."
A reception, with refreshments, followed in the Maple Hill Grade School. Tlie
meeting of the Mill Creek Valley USD #329 Board of Education followed.

Steve Steck displayed his winning form in the
horseshoe-pitching contest at the McFarland City
Park. A large group of horseshoe throwers have
gathered for a number of years to compete in the
annual 4'h of July Celebration. Activities in that
city are sponsored by the McFarland Activity
Group. Besides horse shoes, the activity group :
provides an evening pork roast followed by a
fireworks display.

Pre-fair clean up and set-up will be held at the fa/r grounds on Saturday, July 27th
beginning at 9:00 a.m. At that same time the horse show will be held at the Eskridge Rodeo
Arena.
On Monday mornin& July 29m, entries will begin pouring in from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
;t-Hers ~ display a multitude of projects in scores of different categories. Open class
divisions are also available to anyone from Wabaunsee County that m/ght wish to exhibit
items they are proud of and would like to share.

The Flint Hills Pork Producers will be serving pork burgers at the fair grounds Monday
evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. That same evening, at 7:00 p.m., fair royalty will be crowned
followed by a fashion revue. These events will be held on the stage under the arena at the
fair grounds.
The Eighth Annual Pedal Pull Contest will be held at 8:00 p.m. as youngsters match the@
str e/t~ on the pedal tractors. This event is sponsored by Stockgrowers State Bank - Pax/co,
Maple Hill, ~nd Alma, and the Wabaunsee County Farm Bureau.
On Tuesday mornin~ July 30th, the beef show will be held at 9:00 as well as the
photography judg/ng. At 12 noon rabbits and hand pets will be judged, followed by the
bucket calf show at 2:00 p.m. and the swine show at 6:00 p.m. A rocket launch will be held
that same evening at 7:00 p.m. allowing those enrolled in rocketry an opportun/ty to share
the@ projects.
Wednesday mornin~ July 31.t, the sheep show will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be followe~l
by the da/ry cattle and goat show. Shepherd's Lead begins at 12 noon, as does the poultry
judging. The Round Robin Showmanship contest will be featured at 1:30 p.m. with the
champion showman from beef, horse, sheep and swine vying for top overall showmanship
honors.
From 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Barnyard Olympics will be held: This event provides a number of
activities as 4-Hers match speed, agility, and strength. Many of these events provide as
much enterta/xunent for the participants as it does the spectators.
The fair will begin to wind down Wednesday evening, but not until after the Cattlemen's
Supper, beginning at 5:00 p.m., the awards ceremony beginning at 7:00, and the big
Livestock sale, beginning at 7:30, are held. Not to be forgotten, the "Kiss the Pig Contest" will
