Page 2 The Wabaunsee County Signal-Enterprise, Thursday, JAMES RICHARD "DICK" BAKER James Richard "Dick" Baker, 68, Topeka, Kansas , died Thursday, July 4, 2002, west of Auburn when he was strickenwhile at a family outing. Mr. Baker retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka, Kansas after 30 years of service. He had been a truck driver since 1984 and operated heavy equipment. He was born June 25, 1934, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John Homer and Irene Jessop Baker. He was reared in Topeka and graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1952. Mr. Baker was a member of -Rubber Workers Union No. 307 in Topeka. Survivors include three sons, Ronald Baker, Lyndon, Kansas, Brent Baker, Eskridge, Kansas, and Rodger Baker, Harveyvflle, Kansas; three daughters, Donna Robe- son, Gordon, Texas, Cynthia Hill, Adrian, Missouri, and Anita Baker, Topeka, Kansas; one brother, Robert Baker, Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Betty Smith, St. Charles, Mis- souri and Linda Kellogg, Amarillo, Texas; 12 grandchil- dren; and one great- grandchild. Dagg, 90, Topeka, Kansas, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at a Topeka nursing home. She was born September 10, 1911 near Eskridge, Kan- sas, the daughter of Robert Henry and Mary Murdie Shu- mate. She had lived in the Dover, Kansas community many years. She grew up on a farm southwest of Dover and was graduated from Dover High School in 1929. She received her Normal Training from Kansas State Agricultural College ha Manhattan, Kansas. She taught at District No. 6 and No. 71 schools. She was a member of the Haskell Creek Club and had been a 4-H pro- ject leader. She married Fred Dagg on September 16, 1933 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1990. Survivors include one son, Dean Dagg, Manhattan, Kan- sas; two daughters, Mary Du- nagan, Maple Hill, Kansas, and Maxine Campbell, Topeka, Kansas; her twin sister, Lena Ginter, Topeka, Kansas; one brother, Harley Shumate, Eskridge, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at the Dover Federated Church, Dover, Kansas. Bur- ial followed in the Dover Cemetery. A family visitation was held at the Dover Feder- ated Church from 7:00 until 8:00 Monday, July 8, 2002. JOYCE JACQUELINE TERRASS Joyce Jacqueline Terrass, 83, a longtime Manhattan, Kansas resident, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Valley View Professional Care Center in Junction City, Kansas. She was born April 27, 1919, in Alma, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob F. and Pauline Wetzig Terrass. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. Joyce was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, was~ formerly active with the Ladies Aide Group, she loved K-Sate sports, and enjoyed reading and traveling. Dr. Terrass graduated from Kansas State University, earned her M.S. at Colorado State University and her PhD in 1969 from Purdue Univer- sity. In 1973, she was one of thirteen Kansas State Univer- sity alumni to receive the Home Economics Centennial Alumni Award. She joined the Kansas State Uni- versity adult and occupational education faculty in 1973 as an associate professor. She served as KHEA President in i July 11, 2002 1978. Dr. Terrass authored "Teaching Occupational Home Economics" and several publi- cations. She was promoted to full professor in 1977. She had served a total of 45 years in the education field and had provided a high degree of lead- ership to the development of students in the classroom at the middle school, secondary school, and university levels. She truly dedicated her life to the improvement of instruction and to the development of stu- dents in many traditional and nontraditional settings. Through her leadership roles at the state, regional and national levels, many educa- tors have been motivated to greater achievement and much incentive has been provided to upgrade current instructional programs. She was a strong promoter of Kansas State Uni- versity, and many individuals have enrolled at Kansas State University because of her na- tional reputation. She retired in 1987. Survivors include three great-nieces, Valerie Peterson, Manhattan, Kansas, Nancy Brisbois and her husband, Nick, Temple, Texas, and Amy Kuntz and her husband, Greg, Leesville, South Carolina; two great-nephews, Seth Gordon Kuntz and Nathan Alexander Brisbois; two great-nieces, Rachel Alexandra Kuntz and Nichole Kathryn Brisbois; one nephew's wife, Kathryn Peter- son, Keamey, Nebraska; one step-niece, Sherri Kennedy, Lawrence, Kansas; one step- nephew, Phillip Wilkinson of Florida. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Pe- terson Wilkinson on July 11, 1984 and Madeen Pauline Kimball on June 1, 1996; and one nephew, Reverend Gordon Peterson on April 20, 1992. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Manhat- tan, with Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Lu- theran Cemetery, Alma, Kan- sas.
